Solutions Architect



Sales Engineers at InterSystems provide guidance in the use of InterSystems' products as they best suit the requirements of the customer and its market. You coordinate product and business strategies with Account Managers to apply existing and new products to customers' database and application needs. The role is very wide-ranging, fast-paced and challenging, requiring a mixture of design skills, application development and deployment, hands-on coding and problem solving, presentation skills, technical architecture, sales awareness, business acumen, evangelism, mentoring and training skills. It is imperative that you have a passion for innovation, a passion for the success of the customer, and the skills to ensure the best performance, scalability, security and availability of customers’ InterSystems-based solutions. Regional travel is extensive.

  • Secure and develop close, long-term client relationships through internal InterSystems’ department collaboration
  • Give corporate presentations and trainings to InterSystems' customers and prospects at site visits, marketing events, trade shows, seminars and such venues.
    • Topic includes strategic and tactical technical and business directions and technical product demonstrations
  • Support our clients during beta test programs or pre-launch activities
    • Provide feedback to the software development groups
  • Manage the technical relationship with customer accounts, ensuring that they are aware of the latest product capabilities
    • Identify new opportunities for these existing accounts.
    • Help customers adopt, use, and deploy InterSystems’ technology
  • Install InterSystems software and assist with benchmarking exercises to determine optimal deployment configurations
  • Ensure successful implementations as a hands-on lead application developer by working closely with Systems Integrators and Project Managers, especially during early stages of adoption and particularly technically challenging projects
    • Recommend technical architecture, database schema, design patterns, migration and upgrade strategies and operational best practices
    • Consult to InterSystems’ Sales, Marketing, Support, Development, Documentation and other departments
  • Produce collateral such as white papers, product demonstrations or case studies
  • Keep up-to-date with InterSystems products and industry developments, especially competitive products, and undertake any relevant self-development or training
  • Investigate & demonstrate the use of InterSystems products with other third party technologies
  • Design, Build, demonstrate, and present Proofs of Concept (PoCs) for prospects and partners to illustrate the suitability, ease of use, performance, features, reliability and/or connectivity capabilities of InterSystems technology
  • Provide application programming in Caché Objects, Caché SQL, Caché ObjectScript, and other technologies



  • Broad knowledge of IT Industry issues & trends with specific vertical market & technical knowledge in HealthCare Integration
  • Outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Proven business analysis and problem solving skill
  • Ongoing experience within the design, development & deployment of complex applications.
  • Proven leadership or technical management in an application development environment
  • At least 7 years programming with demonstrable current hands-on expertise in object-oriented languages such as C#, C++ or Java / J2ee
  • Knowledge of competing application frameworks including .NET & J2ee & practical experience of at least one major application server (.NET, WebSphere, WebLogic, TomCat, JBoss, Oracle AS 10g, or similar).
  • Knowledge of Software development processes such as XP, RAD, RUP or DSDM
  • Extensive use of 2 or more databases such as Caché, Oracle, SQLServer, Sybase, Informix or DB2/UDB
  • Designing logical and physical database schema, good SQL and JDBC/ODBC expertise, installation and configuration skills, and performance tuning
  • Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) experience using InterSystems Ensemble, BEA Software, IBM, Sun SeeBeyond, Microsoft or similar


  • Experience running formal technical training courses.
  • Demonstrable experience in all or most of the following:  HTML, Java, C++, .NET, JavaScript, JSON, JSP/Servlets, ASP, XML-related technologies (e.g., XSD, SAX, XSLT, XPATH), web services (SOAP. REST)
  • Proven expertise with InterSystems Ensemble and Cache technologies
  • Solid, practical exposure to Windows, Unix/Linux, MAC OS X
  • Solid, practical exposure to mid-tier application servers and ESBs
  • Personal presence and health care industry expertise to establish yourself as a trusted advisor to development and delivery managers and senior architects
  • A strong, practical knowledge of HL7, X.12 and other existing standards. Exposure to emerging standards

Education and Training

  • Degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
